Blogs I love to read

I got the idea of speaking about the blogs I read from iMod.co.za which is one of my favourite blogs to read. I’m going to focus on the local blogs I like and hope you can enjoy them as much as I do.

1) iMod.co.za: I really like iMod; I’m not sure what it is about the site but I guess I have similar interests to Chris (the head honcho) and enjoy his writing style. Chris is excellent at promoting his site and I’ve stolen a lot of good tips from him. I think iMod epitomises what a blog should be: slightly related to the authors life but with a wide mix of other topics that are interesting.

2) Cherryflava: Jon Cherry’s eponymous blog is simply the best source of new marketing information. It mixes a lot of local flava (haha) and puts a very fresh perspective on marketing and new media. Cherry is clearly a foremost expert on marketing in the current web 2.0 type space and it really shows in this blog. If you need to know the newest trends then you’ll love this site.

3) Ideate: While I don’t always agree with what the guys at Ideate say they are definitely the best blog about business in South Africa (no matter what the blog awards say). There is something special about this site; it just gives good, solid information and that’s a service most people pay thousands for.

4) Splattermail: Authored by a South African in London, Splattermail was one of the first local blogs I ever started reading. I’ve followed the site for over two years and while the content doesn’t exactly come thick and fast it’s definitely worth the wait. Funny and relevant, Splattermail always produces the best.

5) NicHaralambous.com: Despite having the longest domain name ever Nic Haralambous’s personal musings can often be quite entertaining. Him and I often have vastly different views on most matters so I always enjoy ripping off his opinion. Not updated often enough but Nic’s a busy guy so we’ll let it slide.

6) Mike Stopforth: I recently found Mike’s site as he is a founder of Afrigator. I like Afrigator and I also seem to like Mike’s site. It’s an interesting look into a real internet entrepreneur which is great if that’s what you aspire to. Mike describes himself as an “Entrepreneur/Writer/Speaker” and this is basically his blog where he chronicles these topics.

7) Nudjit: The local gadget site often has some pretty cool reviews about tech with a very local spin. I definitely think this site needs to be updated more and has a lot of potential. If they were handing out prizes like Afrigator does for ideas I would totally give them a long list :)

8 ) Vincent Maher: Vincent’s clearly an expert in the online field. We’re talking the guy who Mail & Guardian trusts to create their online portfolio and the same man who created Amatomu. Vincent has a great writing style and always has fascinating topics ranging from everyday life to Web 2.0 topics.

9) Dee/HotSteppa: I noticed I was getting a lot of comments on my site from someone using the pseudonym “HotStePPa” (although I might have messed up the capitalisation :p). These comments then led me to a site called “Through my eyes” and I must say I’ve been hooked ever since. The guy has been blogging for a week and has already knocked out 31 articles. That’s pretty impressive considering the quality of all these articles.

Okay so I couldn’t actually find ten but I’m sure this is a good start. Do you have any local blogs you read all the time? (or at least when they are updated)
