(UPDATE: All is well as can be seen here. Axiz has redeemed itself in my eyes)
I really, really just wanted to write about light fun stuff this week. I’ve even got a great post saved in my drafts about the different music I like. It’s a carefully crafted masterpiece about all the new music I’ve been listening to and enjoying. It’s really bringing me so much satisfaction lately to enjoy this music. Unfortunately that post will have to wait till tomorrow. Today I have a rather more sinister rant.
Let me give you some back story (I love to weave a bit of a story when I rant):
So I’ve got a small (read tiny) computer company that I run on the side mostly selling hardware and fixing little old ladies computers. In essence it has kept me quite liquid during my varsity years and I’ve made a lot of valuable contacts over the years. Due to my resuming full time studies this year I’ve been somewhat neglectful of the business and thus have not needed to buy any products from any suppliers.
In the past two to three years I’ve used Axiz as my supplier of choice. The reason for this is that they were always incredible well stocked with products and had a very wide range. They were also well-priced and sold quality goods. Well I was in for a shock during the last few days.
So I order a computer from Axiz to be collected last Thursday. I ordered the individual parts and as I said, expected to go pick them up from the Axiz premise in Midrand JHB. So off I trundle, braving some pretty hectic traffic (someone had stopped on the side of the road so in typical South African fashion we had to stop to check what was going on). After an hour and a bit of driving we finally arrived there. This is when the drama began. I was quite chuffed not to have to stand in any queue since there was no one there but then I had to wait for an hour to get my stuff! The only reason I actually got my stuff was because I obnoxiously went to the manager asking for my money back telling them I could get the hardware elsewhere (which was a carefully planned ruse to be honest).
Right now you’re thinking: “Why is Saul ranting? He got his stuff in the end?” Well the answer to that is “No, I didn’t get all my stuff in the end”. In fact, I didn’t get the RAM for the PC. Now for those of you who know the absolute basics of how PC’s work you’ll know that a PC won’t turn on without a chip of RAM installed. The sales lady promised she would call me when it arrived. I get a phone call last Friday and the sales lady (who’s name I shall not use since she isn’t technically to blame) tells me that there is stock on the system.
So this brings me to this morning: I arrive at Axiz around half ten. I then spent 45 minutes waiting for them to find my 2-gig chip of RAM. Unfortunately they couldn’t find it so I had to get two 1 Gig chips. Needless to say I had to wait a little bit longer for that as well. Tell me now, how can a company not keep the most common piece of RAM in stock all the time?
The basic moral of this rant is to serve as a warning. The service at Axiz has gone down faster than a two-bit whore and I’d highly recommend you stay away from them. Clearly they only seem to care about their clients who buy from them on a regular basis and spend multi-millions with them. Here we see another big business in South Africa not giving a damn about the small fish in the sea.
Good job Axiz, your incompetence has lost you my business and hopefully yours as well.
