I’m probably stepping on broken glass here and will be labeled a racist David Bullard wanna-be but since I’m intolerant to incompetence I’ll share my thoughts anyway.
If Wikipedia is to be believed then the ANC technically was founded in 1912 and was officially branded the”ANC” in 1923. In 1944 the ANC Youth League was founded by party luminaries such as Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu. Again if Wikipedia is correct then the aim of this movement was to peacfully protest against Apartheid laws and the repression of the black population. The movement fought for close on 60 years to end Apartheid and when they finally succeeded Nelson Mandela became the President of South Africa. Reconciliation became the buzzword but yet all is not well in South Africa in 2008.
What went so horribly wrong?
The problem in my mind lies at the top. The current leader of the ANC, Jacob Zuma needs little introduction. A charming man with a grade 4 education and zero morals looks tipped to be the next President of our country. His counterpart in the Youth League, Julius Malema is currently in the news about a comment he made related to Zuma. His comment, about how he was willing “to kill for Jacob Zuma” has apparently been misinterpreted but let’s be honest, when you’re direct superior is an idiot, you cant help but be an idiot as well.
Don’t even get me started on previous ANC President Thabo Mbeki. I’ve never seen a leader so paralysed by stupidity and fear. The very fact that he continues to be President shocks me. How these people have become leaders of anything fascinates me.
The question is though, how did a movement go from such high standards just after Mandela left power to the absolute incompetence and scum that exist in the party today? I had the pleasure of going to Albert Luthuli House last year in an attempt to be recruited to a ten thousand rand a month business club subscription. Assumedly you’d expect decent sales people or at least competent people able to hold a conversation? Nope, I got illiteracy and incompetence. If this is who you employ then you have no chance as an organisation.
I’m surprised about two issues. The first is that the spiritual grandfather of the ANC, Nelson Mandela has kept quiet over this whole time. Surely if he could intervene and bring some level of sanity to a political party staffed by well dressed thugs? My second interesting point is why do voters keep bringing the lowest denominator to power? Julius Malema has been in control of the Youth League for a few weeks and already is making comments about killing for Zuma. If I was an ANC member I can’t understand why voting for someone like Jacob Zuma would make sense. Clearly to become a party member you need to have a lobotomy – just look at Julius Malema. Why we even need a Youth League is beyond me and people like Malema should get a real job sweeping streets where they belong.
In conclusion I’d like to point out the glaringly obvious truth: We’ve moved away from a repressive government to a government which represses its constituents through incompetence and plain stupidity. The ANC, a once marvelous organisation that is now run by rejects. Shame indeed

The state the ANC is in, is a result of ill-discipline. They behaved like animals at the Pietersburg conference and showed the world that they were a bunch of unruly bastards!
