Word on the street is that there have been a few complaints about the latest Nandos advert which features a rather ridiculously voluptuous young lady complaining that she didn’t get any chips with her meal. In reality her massive chest is blocking the chips and the advert then goes on to punt their new “double breast burger”. People are complaining that it is sexist and somewhat exploitative. I say they should grow up.
The advert is funny, no doubt about it. It parodies the dumb blond stereotype and it’s finally a return to form for Nandos advertising that has always been a little bit risque and have often skirted the realms of good taste. This advert though leaves me cold.
Lets go back to a few years ago when Nandos had the advert with the dog leading the blind lady into a pole. The advert caused a major uproar and got Nandos a huge amount of attention. In my mind, this is what an advert should do for a company. The last Nandos advert, the ones featuring Vernon Koekemoer had absolutely zero ingenuity and it seems as though the ad agency needs to take a lot more drugs or get better quality drugs than the ones they are currently on.
Maybe it’s a sign of the times but ultimately when this is the best a previously cutting edge company is reduced to tired jokes then you need to wonder what is happening in our country’s advertising agencies.

The Nandos My Boob ad maybe leaves you cold because YOU, are not blonde and probably do not have a real sense of houmour like you claim you do. Not only does this ad combine fine “blonde joke” humour with typical South African behavior, but Nandos managed to capture much more than “chips and boobs” in their ad. Look at the actors’ facial expressions, read between the lines – it reflects the south African Culture, political atmosphere, at the same time illustrating fun and love for nandos. My family loves the ad, so does all our friends, locally and internationally. You are the exception if you claim that this advert “leaves you cold”.
Ditto. Ad is hilarious. Author has no sense of humour. Woman is quite funny especially at end of ad.
