I just picked up this piece of news and I had to say something on the matter as I find the flagrant waste of money disturbing.

So apparently the South African Police Service has just taken delivery of, wait for it, a 150 million rand Cessna plane. The reason for this is, and I quote, “to ensure that senior police and the task force can be deployed in the wink of an eye.” Let me be the first to say that this is the biggest waste of money I’ve ever heard of in my entire life. Issue number one: when have the police ever needed to be deployed on such short notice that they could not drive or fly on public transport methods? Secondly the plane was bought to, and I quote yet again, “replace the police’s “elderly” Beechcraft, which is already 38 years old”. So they bought a new plane even though they already had a private plane. I’m sorry, it takes 15 hours to DRIVE from Johannesburg to Cape Town and two hours by commercial jet. How long could the old plane have taken; 5 hours maximum?

This is a ridiculous waste of money and screams of corruption. The police chiefs clearly want a jet they can use to shuttle their drug money and mistresses around. Let’s do some math here quickly: if we assume a flight on a local carrier costs R2000 return (due to the fact that the flight would be booked last minute assuming a need for speed) then they SAPS could have afforded SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND return trips roughly anywhere in the country. Now I understand that flights are often booked or they might need to go to remote locations but they had a plane already! Surely they didn’t need to buy a new jet? I mean how often can they use it?

Another financial issue to consider is with R150 million how many new police could be trained and positioned to fight crime? It seems the heads of every government institution are only interested in self promotion and stupidity.

As a closing note take a look at the Cessna and tell me how relevant it is for the Police to own a jet as nice as this one.

If you’re bored go look here for the specs of the Cessna Citation Sovereign

For those of you who have ever bought an Apple product in South Africa you’ll know that the pricing is exorbitant at best. The Core Group, Apple importers in South Africa are also the importers of Nintendo products. What this means is that the Wii console as well as the new Nintendo DS lite handheld console are also imported by Core.

The new DS is being released on the 15th of February at the highly disgustingly exorbitant price of 1850 rand. Fascinatingly the price in America for the exact same device is $129. This translates to a few bucks more than a thousand rand. This is the direct price after the rand got pummeled in exchange markets and dropped an entire rand to the dollar.

The numbers never lie and frankly this just shows you how Core is robbing the South African consumer. When they arrived in the country with the Wii at around two and a half grand I was shocked and appalled at how expensive it was priced. Frankly the reason crime is so high in South Africa is because it’s legalised here! Every time I buy a tech product I get robbed!

The whole reason the DS is the best selling console in the world is due to its cheap price and high level of fun. In addition to the high price of the console the games cost around four hundred rand which again is a travesty.

The Core Group are the most useless, incompetent, lazy and ineffective company in South Africa but yet seem to have a huge amount of money due to bringing in the most sought after products. It’s just typical that we get ripped off here.

Nintendo DS top tip: Go buy the games from Take2 which has better imported games at a cheaper rate.

A thing of the past?

So apparently according to this article the Scorpions are set to be disbanded. This is wonderful news for our country and especially our new ANC president Jacob Zuma. You see, the Scorpions had the audacity to go raid the great and wise Mr Zuma’s house looking for evidence with regards to his rape trial.

In almost clinical coincidence this attempt to shut down the strongest part of our countries crime fighters comes the day after Zuma’s election. To be honest the quote from the commission that decided this says it all:

The views of ANC delegates attending the commission was that the Scorpions were responsible for their downfall – with the perception that the unit was used by senior government officials to target Zuma.
The Star said the unit has often been claimed to be an example of President Thabo Mbeki’s alleged abuse of power.

So basically real criminals are not going to be stopped due to Thabo and Jacob both being egotistical prats? It seems to me that even if the Scorpions were used incorrectly in the past, they are a powerful force and need to be protected rather than disbanded. This is clearly an abuse of power by Jacob Zuma, the number one perpetrator on the Scorpions hit list. The ire between Zuma and the Scorpions has been long problematic with the two clashing in court many times over the search they performed on Zumas house.

It also fascinates me how the ANC delegates get to decide about the disbanding of the Scorpions not say for example the entire government. I’m sure someone like Helen Zille would have a thing or two to say about this.

Apparently there is now enough evidence to support a case against Zuma but lets be honest here, the man is untouchable. This is a total perversion of justice in this country and it shows how insipid Jacob Zuma really intends to be. Within a day of being ANC president, a major force against him is bound to be disbanded. I really hope someone does something about this soon, this country is facing some serious troubles otherwise.

Since it’s a public holiday I’ve decided to take the day off blogging as well. I was however totally shocked and disturbed by a phone call I had today.

I got a phone call from a man parading to be my domestic workers brother. Now she’s recently gone home to the Eastern Cape and had not told me if she arrived safely or not. This sick individual says she died in a car accident and proceeds to demand money for her burial. Thankfully I have my domestics cell number so resolution on the matter was a phone call away but this is the sickest thing I’ve ever heard.

Firstly, how does a person have the sick twisted mind to phone me and tell them that someone close to me has been killed just for a few bucks? This is totally disgusting and I’m shocked out of my mind. Secondly, how the hell does someone have not only my home phone number but my surname and my domestics number? There are some sick scary people out there is all I can say. The part that irked me the most is that the so called brother sounded really choked up.

I guess nothing is sacred in this country anymore. I’m really sorry, how is this country getting any better? Every day I see more reasons why this place is going to hell. I’m really tired of not being able to sleep at night due to anxiety related to crime.

I’m tempted to phone the guy back, tell him my domestic owed me 20000 bucks and I want it back but frankly someone who knows where I live is not someone I want to mess with. The situation is totally messed up.

For those of you with free time give Isaac a call on 0727430245 and tell him what a sick individual he is.
